Laurent Van der Stockt of France wins coveted award for his stunning body of work documenting alleged use of chemical weaponry in Syria

PERPIGNAN, FRANCE – Reportage by Getty Images photojournalist Laurent Van der Stockt won the prestigious Visa d’Or News award September 7 at the 25th anniversary of Visa Pour l’Image, the international festival of photojournalism held annually in Perpignan, France. Laurent received the award for his stunning reportage of the alleged use of chemical weapons by military forces in Syria.

The French photojournalist shot the award-winning project outside Damascus over a period of three months, from March to June of this year. The project is one of Van der Stockt’s many reportage projects in areas of conflict, including work in Libya, Egypt and Chechnya.

“We are thrilled and incredibly proud that a Reportage by Getty Images photojournalist has been selected for this prestigious honor. The Visa d’Or award is a reflection of Laurent Van der Stockt’s passion and talent, captured in his striking coverage of the Syrian conflict.
