Statement by Getty Images Co-Founder and CEO Jonathan Klein

Getty Images utterly condemns the kidnapping and murder of James Foley, an American journalist who worked to shed light on the plight and lives of those who would otherwise remain in darkness. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

Foley was a respected journalist, dedicated to his work, an innocent in the conflict he was covering. As journalists, neither he nor any of his fellow hostages hold any sway over government foreign policy. The tragic and barbaric manner of Foley’s death only serves to highlight the vital role of a free press he so clearly believed in.
