Getty Images’ photographer Cameron Spencer won the sports photography award at the Nikon-Walkley Awards for Excellence in Photojournalism at a recent ceremony in Sydney, Australia.
Cameron won for the award his work H20 Action, a selection of highly aesthetic sports photographs linked by the theme of water. The portfolio included images ranging from freestyle aerial skiing at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics to the New Zealand All Blacks Sevens performing the Haka in the rain after winning the Hong Kong Sevens.
Cameron is an experienced sports photographer and recently won first place in the sports photography category at the 2014 Australian Sports Commission Media Awards. Cameron has covered major events including four Olympic Games, three Commonwealth Games, three Rugby World Cups, two Asian Beach Games, two NZ Winter Games, the FIFA World Cup in South Africa and Brazil and International cricket including three Ashes test series.
Cameron’s work is regularly published in newspapers, magazines and online around the world. Publications include The Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian, The Daily Telegraph, The Independent, The Times, The Washington Post, The New York Times, Inside Sport, ESPN and Sports Illustrated.
