Australia in Focus celebrates Australian photography and photographers through history
SYDNEY, November 30, 2015: Getty Images, the world’s leader in visual communications, is excited to share with Australians the Getty Images Australia in Focus collection, a celebration of Australian photography and photographers from across history. Launched today via eBook for Getty Images’ 20th anniversary, it contains Getty Images’ most iconic and loved images from Australia.
Curated from its growing collection of over 200 million assets globally, Australia in Focus features defining images from Australia’s history of news, sports and entertainment. Included are powerful images of the Beaconsfield miners emerging from underground after 14 days, deadly bushfire disasters, Australia’s Bicentennial Celebration and Australian troops from the Militiamen of the 59th Battalion, Hume Regiment, singing ‘Where the Dog Sat on the Tucker Box’ in 1939. Browsers will also find images from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, of Royal visitors through the ages, including Queen Elizabeth’s first tour of Australia in 1954, and David Warner’s touching tribute to the late Philip Hughes.
Stuart Hannagan, Director of Photography, Asia & Vice President, Australasia, Getty Images, who helped curate the collection said; “Visuals have a huge effect on our emotions and during my time at Getty Images I have come to realise that pictures can have an extraordinary impact on people and their lives. The Australia in Focus collection bears testimony to this and to the history of our nation.”
“Curating a defining selection of our country’s most important moments in imagery was no easy feat,” continues Hannagan. “I am extremely proud to launch this milestone collection in our 20th anniversary year – a collection that reflects moments of Australia through the very best imagery. I am also incredibly grateful to the photographers who have created this extraordinary work and who are the true heroes of our company.”
