March 4, 2020 • Company News

NEW YORK—March 4, 2020: Getty Images, a world leader in visual communications, has announced its latest internship within the Sports Editorial Team in New York, for a 12-week paid engagement.

The Getty Images’ Sports Internship, first launched in 2008, will provide the successful recipient with unprecedented access to world class editors, photographers and assignment editors, as they cover major sports events. Over the course of three months, the recipient will shoot alongside Getty Images’ leading photographers at events such as the U.S. Open, NY Marathon and the MLB Playoffs, as well as games for the Knicks, Nets, Devils, Rangers and more. After a few weeks spent learning Getty Images’ picture filing software and assignment protocols, the recipient will be encouraged to cover select events independently.

“This is an incredible opportunity, both for an aspiring sports photographer to gain experience and expertise, but also for Getty Images as we get to be directly involved in shaping the next generation of talent, providing a photographer with the chance to cover the kinds of sports events they might not previously have ever had access to,” said Travis Lindquist, VP of Global Sport, Getty Images.

Applications are now open and will close on March 13, 2020. Note that applicants should be enthusiastic and passionate about sports photography, proficient in the fields of digital photography, lighting and image editing and be physically able to lift and carry between 25 and 50 lbs. of gear and photographic equipment. Applicants should have their own laptop and the ability to work out of the Getty Images New York City office and travel as needed. The internship will begin in late August and continue through November, with the possibility of extension.

As part of Getty Images’ commitment to diversity and inclusion, and while all applicants are welcome, applications are encouraged from groups that are underrepresented in the world of professional photography such as minority, female, female-identifying and non-binary individuals.
