New York – 4 April, 2016: Getty Images today announced that applications for its 2016 Grants for Editorial Photography programme are now being accepted. Five photojournalists will be selected to receive grants of US$10,000, intended to provide the funding and freedom to pursue projects of personal and journalistic significance.
Since launching in 2004, Getty Images Editorial Grants programme has supported photojournalists around the world by providing the creative freedom and collaborative editorial support necessary in their pursuit of work, which they would have otherwise not had the time or resource to address.
From 2016 onwards, one Editorial Grant recipient will be chosen for the David Laidler Memorial Award, in honour of former employee, David Laidler, who passed away in August 2015. David was instrumental in bringing the Getty Images Grants for Editorial Photography programme to life.
Last year’s programme saw Getty Images receive almost 400 grant applications, from 78 countries. The winning projects examined a range of thought-provoking and moving issues from the social structure of Naples to the sex industry in Kolkata.
